Our Leaders
Emet Collins
Shomer

Emet was born in Mississippi and raised in the Dallas, Texas area. Growing up in the Southern Baptist tradition, his path took a significant turn in 2012 when he embarked on a remarkable journey into Torah observance. Emet’s commitment to this path has been marked by self-paced learning, where he delved into the rich tapestry of traditional Judaism and its profound values through the study of Jewish literature and absorbing the wisdom shared in countless lectures by esteemed institutions like Chabad.

In 2020, Emet found a guiding light in the teachings of Rabbi Trugman, whose wisdom has deeply influenced his spiritual growth. In 2021, he embraced a leadership role as the Shomer of Magen Yisheinu Synagogue, further solidifying his dedication to fostering a vibrant, inclusive community.

Beyond his spiritual pursuits, he is a husband and father, aspiring songwriter, and dancer. He continues to pursue truth and mature in love and attachment to the Holy One Blessed be He.
Hillel Lugo
Cantor
Hillel has served our community since 2013, which has now become Magen Yisheinu, and he continues to serve as Chazan (Cantor) and music director.
His professional background in music and his passion for the Hebrew language would naturally lead him to his calling as the Chazan of our community. Hillel strives to elevate and inspire our liturgical prayer services with passion and authenticity that is approachable to the newcomer, yet familiar to anyone who has experienced a traditional synagogue experience.
